The Name – Scotch Bonnet
Scottish Bonnet (hats) have a long and interesting history. The modern day Balmoral
bonnet dates back to at least the 16th century. Originally it was the ‘Blue Bonnet’, worn by Scottish Highland Regiments.
A soft wool knitted cap with a expansive flat crown in blue.
These Scottish bonnets were sometimes seen with a diced band and a colored toorie in the middle of the crown.
Today the crown is smaller made with a finer cloth usually of blue, black, or lovat green.
